With season one over its time to start building for the season ahead, but to be honest I was planning for season 2 many game months ago however I did not see the departure of our top scorer Mauro Icardi leaving the club because in January he said he would stay with us providing we got Champions League football, fast forward 5 months and his head was turned by Manchester United and he declared his desire to join them. We agreed a deal worth £74m and Icardi departed closely followed by Vecino (WBA), Dalbert (PSG) and Ranocchia (WBA) from our first team squad along with a few fringe players bringing in a very welcome initial £86m that will rise very soon to over £120m with a few add ons which will be triggered after some short appearance clauses similar to Icardi’s which will bring in £16m after just 5 appearances for United.
The first player to join us during the transfer window was Roberto Gagliardini who had already agreed the deal before I took over at the club, Gagliardini was on loan to us last season and was one of our top players putting in consistently good performances week after week, I am pleased the club had this deal sorted before my arrival because I see the midfielder being a big player for us over the next few seasons.
My first signing of the summer was 18 year old Italian attacking midfielder Nicolò Buso from Cesena for an initial £1m that could rise to £3m with performance related add ons. Buso comes with very good potential even if he is a bit rough around the edges, I believe he can develop in to a future 1st team player here in Milan.
The next player to join us was 21 year old Brazilian winger Richarlison who joins us on a season long loan from Watford who were relegated out of the Premier League last season. Richarlison comes in to the club to push Ivan Perisic for a place on our left wing. The addition gives us a quality option down the left flank and if all turns out well we may be able to make the Brazilian a permanent fixture come next summer.
Signing number three is 19 year old Italian Striker Simone Mazzocchi who joins the club from Atalanta for £2.2m which in my eyes is a steal. Mazzocchi is a product of the very successful youth development system in Bergamo which is growing a fantastic reputation for developing quality players. Mazzocchi could well be the transfer coup of the season and is one to watch over the duration of this save.
The next man through the door is a player who grew up at Internazionale coming through the junior ranks before breaking in to the first team in 2013 and then leaving the club in 2015 to join Sampdoria. So the man returning to the club is none other than 21 year old Italian Striker Federico Bonazolli who joins us in a deal worth £5.75m which is a good deal when you realise we had a 40% sell on clause when he joined Sampdoria 3 years ago meaning Samp now owe us £2.3m. With Bonazolli back home it’s time for him to step up and carve a career out for himself.
I turned to the loan window again to bring in another Forward this time 26 year old Italian Roberto Inglese who as found himself transfer listed by his parent club Napoli. I am hoping that Inglese can come in and offer an alternative option up front. Inglese is very strong with his back to goal. Again Inglese is not an obvious choice to bring in to the fold at Inter but I believe I can get something out of him.
Now for the big money move, with Richarlison and Perisic covering our left wing I felt we needed to reinforce our right side and provide quality alongside Antonio Candreva and I believe I have done this by signing 22 year old Serbian Winger Andrija Zivkovic from Benfica for £34.5m rising to £37m with future clauses. Zivkovic adds star quality to our squad and can play in a number of positions but I have brought him in to play on the right wing after missing out on Domenico Berardi who joined Bayern Munich.
Last but not least I turned to the loan market again this time bringing in transfer listed 25 year old Montenegrin full back Adam Marusic from Lazio on a season long loan to provide cover for Danilo D’Ambrosio. I will evaluate Marusic during his loan spell with a view to bringing him in on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
The board have set their expectations and they expect us to reach the knockout round of the Champions League whilst qualifying for the Champions League next season by finishing in the top 4 of Serie A.
Champions League Draw
We have been drawn in an interesting group alongside Borussia Dortmund, Benfica and Olympique Lyon. If we are to progress we will have to be on top of our game but I am looking forward to seeing how our new boys get on.
Thank you for taking the time to read this latest update, also a big thank you to all who have retweeted my blog posts and gave me feedback that helps me to develop my writing skills. Whilst English is not my first language I do struggle at times to put certain words / grammer together but I am trying my best to improve and will continue to listen to feedback. I am sure I will find my natural writing style along my journey playing FM. I am planning and currently putting together a post on youth development and how I develop youth on FM. For anybody returning to this site you will notice that I have changed the layout to try and put my own style on the blog. Hopefully I should have another blog post out soon so until then thanks.
